External Review of the Superconducting 56MHz Storage Cavity for RHIC

Preamble

The 56 MHz SRF storage cavity for RHIC is an AIP project. As such, the performance of the cavity affects the operations of a large facility. Its design must provide a high level of confidence in its performance in all respects: The RHIC beam stability, availability and reliability. The project is now at a stage where most of the physics design has been completed, a significant amount of engineering has been done and final drawings are about to begin. This is an optimal point for a review, since the design is clear and there is still time to make various design changes without significant loss of time and money.

 

Charge

The committee is requested to go over the plans as described in the project reports, presentations made to the committee and discussions with the team. The committee is requested to look for errors or weak points in the design and inform the team. The committee is requested to provide advice on how to proceed with the project and recommend changes as necessary.
